How was your Easter? Spring is now supposed to be here but it seems that the weather has not been told!! Things have been fairly quiet on the Committee front recently, the next main event for the Club being the Annual General Meeting to be held in the Boat Shed on Wednesday 23rd starting at 8PM. All paid up members are more than welcome (please ensure you have your card with you). The Agenda and annual finance report have been up for a while for members to peruse. You will have noticed that the price rises have now been put into effect – sorry about that but we need to maintain a reasonable profit margin on sales to cover our increasing costs. Our sailors start racing on Wednesday evenings next month, a sure sign of summer! And if you look at the racing programme we have a number of river races planned and while we are racing up and down the river it is always nice to see spectators enjoying a beer on the balcony while we are working hard and getting wet! Whilst on the subject of the balcony – this is going to be our next major project with the decking and the fendering on the front being replaced and possibly some handrails along the riverside being fitted. This is still in the early planning stage at the moment but I will keep you all advised as to when work is likely to start (hopefully this year but maybe next). The Dinner Dance was another great success and I hope all those who attended enjoyed themselves. Yes I know the band was a bit loud but then they always are and I have never heard of someone asking a band to play louder!! All our thanks should go to Penny for all her hard work in organising this event. As my first year of being Commodore comes to an end I hope that those of you who take the time and effort to read these monthly missives find them informative and worthwhile. Another method of communication the Committee uses is the Club website www.oasc.co.uk this has recently been revamped and I would like to thank our new webmaster Rob Elwes for the work he has put in. If anyone has any suggestion for other things that should be on the website please contact us via the links on the site. I look forward to seeing some of you at the AGM.
