Predictably enough the final tally gave the series result to Ian Bradley (Streaker), who is building
a house extension to store his trophies. Not so predictably Mike Potter (Megabyte), in an inspired display of OOD'ing,
snatched second place from Duncan Ellis by a super-slender 0.6 point margin: neither of them sailed the last two races but
Mike's average points as OOD boosted him up the fleet. Next up, Mouse Emery and Dave Cooper (Miracle) snuck a two point advantage
over the experienced and consistent John Windibank (Comet) to take 4th place: a combination of a breezy final day and a (donated!)
better rig just gave them the edge.
Once again the February Freezer series has been a big success. The weather's been mild, breezes acceptable, the turnouts were worthwhile, it's
been a lot of fun.

Mark 2, race 7
Mark 2, race 7
The final races of the Feb Freezer series were sailed in a westerly breeze that freshened during the morning. Race Officer Mike
Potter set courses of Byzantine complexity with at least one gybe at every mark (I'm sure he'd have insisted on multiple gybes if he could!). Ian
Bradley in his Streaker nailed both races and clinched the series. Surely he must be desperate for a series in his Moth by this time? Laser young
guns Ben Charnley and Jack Napolitano took second and third in race 7, but both DNF'd the second race, probably saving their strength for early season
sailing on the sea wherever. Ian Haynes and Dan Pemberton looked impressively speedy offwind in Dan's Albacore: they didn't save their time, but they
rocketed along in a big cloud of spray! John Windibank (Comet) and the Miracle crew slugged it out as they have right through the series (these are
the only boats that have sailed every race) with the Miracle (unusually!) nudging ahead on this occasion.

Feb Freezer series at Saddlebow
Feb Freezer series at Saddlebow
Another week, another bulleteer! This time it was Ian Bradley (Streaker)'s turn to post a couple of wins.
Whether it's finally warm enough for him to sail , or whether he's just run out of lame excuses (last week's was 'The hamster ate my sail'!),
he beat Bob Pope (Megabyte) in Race 5 and Duncan Ellis (Laser) in Race 6 for a couple of convincing victories. Mike Potter (Megabyte) was
fourth in race 5 and third in race 6: as his boat held together for the entire morning (in contrast to last week), it's possible he's gone
for a better brand of blu-tak.
Further back in the fleet, it was nice to welcome Doug Palmer's nice shiny laser enjoying it's first race at OASC. I hope it's the first of
many and he has a ton of fun sailing here.
With just two races left in this series, there's probably still everything to play for: current posted series scores are a bit misleading. Ian
Bradley will get average points for both races on the first day - he was Race Officer - and the 31 point DNC score will be sharply down in the final
points table unless a real lot of people turn out to race next Sunday. That's possible but not garranteed!

Feb Freezer 1: race start
Feb Freezer 1: race start
The new season started with mist giving way to a sunny morning with a whisper-light easterly breeze. Howard Hawkes
(Phantom) led from the start, with Bob Pope (Supernova) in hot pursuit. By the second lap the breeze had picked up to a semi-respectable 10mph,
but totally disappeared in the final stages, so that early finishers were sitting about smug and happy while boats yet to finish were
just about totally becalmed: this had the inevitable effect on the handicap result - corrected times are usually pretty tight, but this
time the winner (Bob Pope) was anything up to 15 minutes ahead of trailing boats when the handicaps were worked out. Howard Hawkes came
second on handicap and Duncan Ellis (Laser) third.
In the second race the fleet crept away in a real ghoster. The breeze did return, but from the north giving a nice square beat all
the length of the water (so long since we had a beat like that I can hardly remember it!). Bob Pope scored another bullet, this time
Mike Potter (another Megabyte) took second with Howard Hawkes third and John Windibanks (Comet) fourth.
